Emergency School Closings

2010-2011

►Thank you for your patience and understanding when school closings may occur.  Please read carefully:

• Due to transportation arrangements and other considerations for parents and the school, we do not delay the start of a school day.  We are either open for regular hours, or we are closed.  We will only announce our status if there is a change. . . in other words, if there is a closing.

• Wayne Township usually makes their decision by 6:00 a.m.  Our Principal and/or Daycare Director is called shortly thereafter.

• Even though we follow Wayne Township’s weather related closings, always listen for a specific WCS

            announcement to be absolutely sure that we are closing.  Remember, we do not delay.  If Wayne Township delays, we will either be open for regular hours or we will close.  If we close, “Westside Christian School” will be listed on the following television stations:

NOTE:  If the school has an emergency closing, the Preschool/Daycare is closed, as well.

• Please do not contact Westside staff homes to determine if the school is closed.  Check the media.

• Stations can make mistakes and fail to report a phoned-in announcement correctly or at all.  If what you hear or don’t hear sounds very unusual, try switching stations and see what one of the others we contact is reporting.

• Any school day appointments with teachers or immediately after school extra-curricular activities are automatically cancelled on school day closings, unless you are notified otherwise.  If evening programs scheduled on closing days are cancelled, that change will be aired, too, but those announcements may come later in the day as weather and road conditions are monitored.

• On a rare occasion, school may be dismissed early due to weather conditions.  If such were to happen, the media is called.  It is very important that your family has a pre-determined plan for picking up your children from school in case of an early dismissal.  Please be sure now that your children know what that plan is. 

• When the school remains open during inclement weather, we recognize the right of parents to decide whether or not to send their children to school or to pick them up early under such conditions.  Such absences will be automatically “excused.”
